no more burny lap
I’ve had my macbook pro since the friday before christmas, and there’s no denying…this thing smokes. I’m not just talking about the speed (which is blazing…core2 2.16gHz) but it gets kinda toasty..even with good ventilation on my desk.
I remembered reading about some fan/cooling management tools that were published to take care of burny-lap syndrome (BLS), and decided to try out donationware SMC Fan Control. I took the base fan RPMs from 1000 to 3000…just a small increment on the scale provided. Pleasantly, my CPU temperature dropped from an average 57*C to 51-51*C almost instantly…with no detectable decrease in my already insanely good battery life. And, to the touch, the back of the keyboard (base of the screen) that used to be almost too hot to touch is now just a tiny bit more than “warm” ( Also worth noting, the fans are quiet. Detectable if you’re listening for it, but ultimately, whisper quiet.)
