Twas the night before Austin
Tonight marks the 1 month anniversary of the evening before I left for Austin, Texas to attend SXSW Interactive 2008. In 6 days, it will be 1 month since I returned home to Philadelphia and began processing all I had learned and accomplished while at the conference.
I’m thinking about how much has gotten done in the last 30 days and what’s changed since leaving SXSW. While I’m making my own notes, I’d love to hear from other people how their last 30 days of reflection (and recovery) have gone.
So tell me:
What are you up to these days?
Who/what is inspiring you?
Who/what has changed your perspective?
Who did you meet that set you on a path of achieving awesome?
Who do you miss the most?
Have you been following through on the things you promised yourself you’d do when you got back from Austin?

We are hard at work on the book–research is, for the most part, complete–writing productivity is the great challenge.
More than anything else, I am inspired by the fact that people I admire and consider creative, bright, and entertaining find value in the work that I’m doing.
Watching groups of people who hadn’t all met before come together and walk away as a much larger group made me realize that there is definitely a movement afoot in coworking.
Too many people to mention (for both the path to achieving awesome and the miss the most questions). How long until SXSW ‘09?
Yes, sir!

What are you up to these days? - Still contracting - work is picking up, finally.
Who/what is inspiring you? - Same people as usual - those I work with at Indy Hall, especially Jason, who is helping me learn Objective-C and understand Mac development. Not to mention many people I met at SXSW who I now keep in touch with.
Who/what has changed your perspective? - Joining Indy Hall changed my perspective. SWSX was like having that new perspective pounded into me with a really, really big hammer.
Who did you meet that set you on a path of achieving awesome? - Gary V., no question. Kathy Sierra, no question.
Who do you miss the most? - Marcus Nelson. What a cool, real dude.
Have you been following through on the things you promised yourself you’d do when you got back from Austin? - Yes and no. Still not dedicating myself as tirelessly as I can, but started an online TV show, my blog is running, new clients are coming in, and I’m still motivated.

5. I miss the entire group–being around so many people doing awesome and encouraging each other to do awesome. getting so many people in a room that each hold a little part of the puzzle.
6. yes and no.

FOWA really started it off, but SXSW cranked it 100%
1. Working smarter not harder
2. There is so much opportunity, it’s time to step up
3. Realized & met so many other developers, designers and idea people that are working their butts off on exciting new projects, the motivation is contagious
4. Gary V motivated me so much that my head was gonna explode!
5. Not missing anyone, the power is still spreading on Twitter, Viddler and such.
6. Yes - procrastinate and you get left behind

*What are you up to these days?*
Have been traveling like a crazy man
*Who/what is inspiring you?*
For me, it’s getting to interact with those that I serve. When I get to hear there stories and motivations, it makes it all worth it.
*Who/what has changed your perspective?*
I dunno if i’ve had my perspective changed recently… let me think about this.
*Who did you meet that set you on a path of achieving awesome?*
I’m with Alex Harris. Gary V definitely lit a fire under my butt.
*Who do you miss the most?*
I miss all the folks that were hanging out in the Bloghaus. That space had a really cool energy and vibe.
*Have you been following through on the things you promised yourself you’d do when you got back from Austin?*
Trying to “give give give until my face falls off.”
